Revlon Colorstay Lipstick New vs Old Review and Swatches
When I saw that Revlon is planning to discontinue their amazing Colorstay lipsticks, about a year or two ago, I freaked out and stocked up like a mad woman on all of my favorite colors. I loved the formula, the colors, the wear, the feel…they truly were one of my favorite lipstick line.
This winter, Revlon relaunched the line, changing the look, formula, colour selection, pretty much everything, including the official name, which is now Colorstay Ultimate Suede.
Excellent formula, very creamy, nice finish, felt amazing on the lips, pigmentation was great, wear was good, no smell or weird taste. I have different shades and they all look splendid. I can honestly say I had no cons for this product. I was actually upset with Revlon for discontinuing the line. Why fix something that’s not broken?
New Colorstay Ultimate Suede
The formula is definitely different and I am not quite sure if I agree with the “more hydrating” claim. While the new range of colours is more fun that the previous selection, I found that it lacks in pigmentation department. Some shades are really nice and you can get full coverage in a single application while others are very sheer, reminiscent of their Lip Butters.
At the Revlon event I attended recently, where I was introduced to the new lipsticks, they described them as an improved version, sort of a Colorstay 2.0. Do I agree? No. I miss the old lipsticks. I think some of the quality was lost, that beautiful colour pay-ff is not the same despite the new fun shades. I do enjoy the longer wear but I don’t agree with the more hydrating claim. I tested them against the old formula and I can confirm that the original is infinitely creamier.
I think Revlon is my favorite drugstore brand for lip products. Glosses, lipsticks, lipbutters… can’t get enough of them, but I am not a fan of this Colorstay Ultimate Suede line. I will stick to their regular lipsticks if I want lipstick or just go for their lipbutters if I want sheer color and hydration. The old Colorstay lippies were unique and different and the new version doesn’t compare nor does it replace them.
Just to give you an idea, the top two shades are the old formula, lower shade is the new formula. One swipe of each.
